Studio Apartment or One Bedroom Apartment?

If you’re getting ready to move into your own place without a roommate, one of the first decisions you make is going to be whether you’re going to rent a studio or efficiency apartment, or whether you’re going to rent a one bedroom apartment. Each of these apartment types has specific advantages and disadvantages, so make sure you know what you’re getting into before you sign that lease agreement.

Studio Apartments

The big benefit to renting a studio apartment is that the rent is going to be less. That means more money left at the end of the month, instead of more month left at the end of the money. On top of that, the simplified floor plan that comes with a studio apartment means that decorating is a snap. You also don’t need to worry about buying a bunch of furniture. If you don’t have a whole lot of belongings that you need to put up on display, a studio apartment can be ideal for you.

One Bedroom Apartments

If you want a little bit more space, you should think about having a one bedroom apartment. This gives you a couple of things. First of all, you have multiple rooms in your apartment. This means your bedroom is in a separate place from your living space. If you do any amount of entertaining, or if you have guests that like to spend the night, a one bedroom apartment gives you a little bit of privacy. If you work from home, a one bedroom apartment gives you the advantage of being able to spend nights in a different place from where you work.

Which is Best?

You need to ask yourself how you’ll be using your apartment. If it’s just a room to sleep in, a studio is probably fine. A one bedroom apartment gives you a bunch of benefits, but at the cost of higher rent. So, you need to also think about your budget, and what you can afford. Ultimately, the decision will rest on your personal needs and preferences. In either case, make sure you get renters insurance to cover yourself in case something bad happens.
